The Country Bumpkins Bed and Breakfast

     The Country Bumpkins B&B officially opened its door for business on August 20, 2011.  Since then we have had lots of guests--two-legged and four-legged--and so many compliments written in our Guest Book that we have had to shorten them. You may find these comments helpful when making your travel plans!

     We have been truly blessed to have such wonderful guests so far--every one of them has treated our property just as they would their own, and some have even offered a couple of good ideas and suggestions which we appreciate.  We intend to only get better and better as time goes by, but it sounds like everyone has been immensely pleased and satisfied.  You all are welcome back here to stay with us any time!

Since we opened in August 2011, we have had guests from 16 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada!  Virginia leads the charge, but here they are:  CA, CT, FL, GA, MD, MI, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, and VA.

Cherry-Almond Quick Bread

2 C all-purpose flour

1 C sugar

2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 C chopped dried tart cherries

3/4 C milk

2 eggs

1 stick unsalted butter, melted and cooled

1 tsp. almond extract

     Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Lightly grease 8x4" loaf pan.  In large bowl, whish flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.  Add cherries; toss to distribute evenly.  In another bowl, whisk milk, eggs, butter and almond extract.  Add to flour mixture; stir until combined.  Do not overmix.  Pour batter into prepared pan.  Bake until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean, 55-60 minutes.  Transfer pan to wire rack; let cool 10 minutes.  Turn loaf out onto rack; lete cool completely.
